- Confined Water Dives: In this phase, students practice scuba skills in a confined water environment such as a pool. They learn how to assemble and use scuba gear, perform essential skills like buoyancy control, clearing a mask, and sharing air with a buddy.
- Open Water Dives: The final part of the course involves applying the skills learned in confined water dives in actual open water conditions. Students typically complete a series of dives under the supervision of an instructor, demonstrating their ability to dive safely and comfortably.
The PADI Advanced Open Water typically includes:
- Knowledge Development: Similar to the Open Water course, participants complete knowledge development sections, but these are more focused on specific types of diving. Topics may include deep diving, underwater navigation, night diving, drift diving, wreck diving, and more. This knowledge can be acquired through self-study using PADI’s eLearning platform or in a classroom setting with an instructor.
- Adventure Dives: The Advanced Open Water course includes five adventure dives, each focusing on a particular specialty or aspect of diving. Two of these dives are usually mandatory: the Deep Dive and the Underwater Navigation Dive. The other three dives are chosen based on the interests of the diver and the available options at the dive center. Some popular choices include Night Diving, Wreck Diving, Drift Diving, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Photography, and Fish Identification.
- Practical Application: During the adventure dives, divers apply the skills and knowledge they’ve learned in the knowledge development phase. They practice specific dive skills related to each adventure dive, gaining confidence and experience in various diving situations.
- Certification: Upon successful completion of the knowledge development sections and the five adventure dives, divers are awarded the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification. This certification allows them to dive to a maximum depth of 30 meters (100 feet) and opens up more diving opportunities and locations.

The Padi Rescue Course is widely regarded as one of the most valuable courses in the Padi program. Have you ever been diving and observed someone on the boat who seemed uneasy? Perhaps they were fumbling with their gear and taking a while to prepare for the dive. Did that individual later become anxious, causing you to feel like you could have prevented the issue, even though you were not diving with them?
This course lasts three to four days and covers essential topics such as self-rescue, diver rescue, emergency aid administration, and CPR for dive-related incidents.
You also need to have Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the past 24 months. You can complete this training during the Rescue Diver course as we offer various EFR courses at No Limit Dive Center.
